Kurtheater Bitterfeld

The Kurtheater Bitterfeld ( spelling kurtheater bitterfeld ) was founded in Dessau in 1993 on the initiative of the Swiss actress and director Regula Steiner-Tomić and the Munich musician Andreas Altenhof as an association of professional actors, directors, musicians, composers, dancers, choreographers and visual artists in the legal form of a registered association.

With its projects, the independent theater artistically deals with the history and current situation of modern industrial society in the Dessau-Wittenberg-Bitterfeld-Wolfen region and with increasing globalization throughout the world. The focus is on topics from local history, the threatened environment and current social upheavals. The projects are intended to set impulses for a conscious and critical perception of the world, and to stimulate changes with theatrical means. For its work in 2003, the Kurtheater bitterfeld received public recognition from the Alliance for Democracy and Tolerance .

The parties

The projects are developed and managed by trained artists: directors, choreographers, musicians and outfitters. It is performed by professional stage artists and interested, selected lay people. This working principle is an inspiration and learning process for everyone involved.

Goal and method

With its work, the theater wants to educate, entertain and create identity. The starting point of every project is a dramaturgical concept presented by the director. All those involved then develop the piece under supervision. This is done through intensive research and improvisation exercises, etc. a. after Jacques Lecoq . This is how the characters, actions, music, costumes, stage design, choreography and thus the entire game template are created.
