Kim Soo-young (born November 27, 1921 in Seoul , † June 16, 1968 in Seoul) was a Korean poet and translator .

Life

Kim Soo-young graduated from Sŏllin Commercial High School and then went to Japan to study at Tokyo University of Commerce . In 1943 he returned to Korea to avoid being drafted as a student soldier in Japan. A year later, he and his family moved to Jilin , Manchuria, and taught at Jilin High School there . At that time he was very involved in the local theater. After the liberation in 1945, he returned to Seoul to work as an interpreter, and finally enrolled again at the English faculty of Yŏnhŭi University , but did not graduate.

He was called up by the North Korean People's Army and became a prisoner of war . In 1952 he came to the prisoner of war camp on the island of K , je , where he worked as an interpreter for the director of the infirmary and for the US Army . Kim later taught English at the Sollin Handelsoberschule and began for weeklies Pacific ( 주간 태평양 ) and Peace Newspaper ( 평화 신문 ) to work. In 1955, he retired and began raising poultry on his farm to devote himself to poetry, translation and literary criticism. He died on June 16, 1968 .
