Kurtoxin is a neurotoxin from the South African thick-tailed scorpion Parabuthus transvaalicus .

properties

Kurtoxin is a peptide and a scorpion toxin in the venom of the South African thick-tailed scorpion . In addition, the toxins bestoxin , birtoxin , dortoxin and altitoxin are also present in the poison . Kurtoxin has four disulfide bridges . Kurtoxin binds to binding site 3 of voltage-gated sodium channels ( Nav1.2 / SCN2A ) and calcium channels ( Cav3.2 / CACNA1H T-type ) in mammals and inhibits the inactivation of sodium channels. Furthermore, it binds to calcium channels of the P, N and L types, but not to Cav1.2 / CACNA1C , Cav2.1 / CACNA1A , Cav2.2 / CACNA1B and Cav2.3 / CACNA1E .
