The Kurupa River is a right tributary of the Colville River in northern Alaska .
Its source is on the northern flank of the Brook Range in the Gates of the Arctic National Park . It flows north and flows 34 km southwest of the Ikpikpuk River into the Colville River, which flows through the North Slope to the Arctic Ocean . The Kurupa River is one of many rivers and streams that feed the Colville River from the Brooks range north of the continental divide .
The river's name was first documented in 1901 by WJ Peters and FC Schrader of the United States Geological Survey . Presumably it is derived from "Kurugak", which means something like duck in the native Alaskan language .
In addition to Kurupa River , the Dictionary of Alaska Place Names also lists Kurupa Creek and Kootcheak River as names for the river.
