Kutz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kutz is a family name.

origin

According to Hans Bahlow , the name Kutz comes from Slavic place names such as Kuhz / Prenzlau. In the Big Book of Family Names , Kutz is initially interpreted as a short form of the Slavic nickname Konrad . A derivation from the Polish Kuc = "lawn" or "Erdscholle" as well as a derivation from the nickname to the Middle High German küz (e) = "Kauz" or the dialect Kutz = "coarse upper dress" is mentioned. Josef Karlmann Brechenmacher confirms the different origins of the name. In 1332 a citizen of Wetzlar wrote: "Ego Conradus dictus Kutz de Langengunse". The last name Kutz can also be found frequently in Jewish families. In this case it is a modification of the very common name Katz , which is written in Hebrew כץ (kz) and therefore allows both variants (including the spelling Kuz ).
