Kyösti Virrankoski

Kyösti Virrankoski (born April 4, 1944 in Kauhava , Finland ) is a Finnish politician and was a member of the European Parliament for the Finnish Center Party from 1996 to 2009 , as a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe .

Life

Virrankoski made his state examination in philosophy at the University of Helsinki in 1972 . From 1968 to 1974 teaching mathematics and environmental studies, he subsequently worked as a lecturer in mathematics (1974 to 1983, 1987 to 1991 and 1995 to 1996).

Politically, Virrankoski was active from 1973 to 2000 as a member of the municipality and city council of Kauhava and was a member of the municipality and city administration of the city from 1977 to 1989. In 1990 he became chairman of the city council, an office he held until 1999. In 1991 Virrankoski was elected to the Finnish parliament . From 1994 to 1995 he was a member of the Finnish delegation to the Nordic Council .

In 1996 Virrankoski, who resigned from the Finnish Parliament in 1995, was elected to the European Parliament and was able to successfully defend his mandate in the subsequent elections.

From 1993 to 2000, Virrankoski was chairman of the Provincial Parliament of South Ostrobothnia .
