Dato Barbakadze

Dato Barbakadze ( Georgian დათო ბარბაქაძე ; born February 7, 1966 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian writer , essayist and translator.

Life

Barbakadse completed until 1984, a locksmith teaching and performed from 1985 to 1987 his two-year military service in the Soviet Army from. In 1991 he finished his diploma studies in philosophy at the Tbilisi State University . From 1992 to 1994 he continued his studies at the Chair of Sociology ( Aspirantur ). He then decided on a career as a writer and broke off his academic career.

From 1991 to 1993 he founded and organized the literary video magazine Zeitschrift von Dato Barbakadze . Twelve video booklets were created in the process. In 1994 he became the founder and editor of the literary magazine Polilogi . Four booklets were published by her. In 1996 he started the new literary magazine ± Literatura , of which he published four issues. From 1991 to 2001 Barbakadze held lectures at various universities in Tbilisi (lectureships in the history of philosophy). From 1996 to 2001 he was a teacher of logic at the Tbilisi Spiritual Academy and the seminary. From 1997 to 2001 he worked as a psychological advisor at a psycho-social help center in Tbilisi.

From 2002 to 2005 Barbakadse lived as a freelance writer in Germany . He also studied philosophy, sociology and ancient history at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . In 2005 he founded the book series project Austrian Poetry of the 20th Century and took over the management of it. Since 2002 he has been a member of the Münster-based “authors group MS-Lyrik”. He is also a member of the European authors' association Die Kogge (since 2007) and the Austrian PEN Club (since 2014).

Despite all the recognition from literary criticism, Barbakadze remains an outsider in Georgian literature. The complex intellectual games on which the Barbakadze process is based problematize the current state of poetry - not just in Georgia. Barbakadse regards poetry as a fate that essentially determines a person's life and allows them to lead an unconventional life. All literature that is left outside the spirit of poetry is creative writing and nothing else. The scheme of this subdivision applies indiscriminately in every century, regardless of any social-cultural context. Barbakadse rejects the accusation that his position is radical, rather he regards his procedure as the adequate reaction of a poet who has remained true to the spirit of poetry to the increasingly radical development of reality, which tends more and more to give up the will to freedom. In the poetry of Barbakadze, the system of linguistic and verbal interpersonal relationships is understood as the practice of asserting aggressive, offensive relationships. On the other hand, he considers his poetic work and awareness to be for reducing the pragmatically targeted updated energy. The object of his observation is the state of human consciousness precisely in this existential phase: in the process of gradual liberation from the aggressive attitude towards things, appearances, other people, the absolute, nature. He makes his own existence the direct subject of immediate observation. In the literary texts of Barbakadze everyday situations are considered through the application of classical metaphysical models of thought and special attention is paid to the movement of the human mind to the so-called higher problems - eternal questions and answers in the process of conscious or accidental contact. The changes brought about by these touches come to the center of the lyrical ego's attention. The subjective poetic mythology of Barbakadze distances erotic and sexual consciousness from one another: there is the original language - the language of god (or gods), which only comes into the material world after enormous, substantial losses; The language of mankind, however, represents a language that has fallen down from eroticism to sex, is based only on social necessity and biological regularity and lacks erotic pleasure. Poetry is able to split the grammatical-sexual dimension (according to the technical term of Barbakadze) and to enter the erotic primeval times. The memory of poetry can remember the original word that connects the human soul with the world of erotic experience.
