Kyra Panagia ( Greek Κυρά Παναγιά ( f. Sg. )) Is an outlying settlement of Aperi , on the east coast of the Greek island of Karpathos . The place was recognized in 1981 as a settlement with 34 inhabitants at the time, but has not been permanently inhabited since 2001 according to the census results. Between two rocks jutting out into the sea, at the exit of a gorge, there is a gravel and sand bay with a particularly steep seabed. This bathing beach has caused the construction of several modern buildings to expand the tourist infrastructure in recent years. In addition to the few summer houses of citizens from Aperi and two long-established guest houses, several new accommodations have been added in recent years.

View from the Lady Chapel of Kyra Panagia Bay
  • On the southern rock face, at a height of around 10 m, all in white with a red dome, stands the Marienkapelle , after which the bay is named. According to legend, the boat of the ship's captain Ioánnis Romnákis got into distress when the wind was strong. In his desperation, the captain pleaded with the Mother of God (Greek Kyra Panagia ) for rescue. The miracle happened and a huge wave washed the ship back ashore. As a thank you, the captain built a chapel on the site of his rescue in 1883 and consecrated it in the name of Panagiá.
  • In addition to the main beach in the bay, the two beaches Káto Láko and Makrýs Gialós , which are close together, can be reached in about 20-30 minutes on foot via a footpath.
