László Kalmár
László Kalmár (born March 27, 1905 in Edde , † August 2, 1976 in Mátraháza ) was a Hungarian computer scientist and mathematical logician.
Kalmar studied from 1922 at the University of Budapest among others with József Kürschák and Lipót Fejér with his doctorate in 1926 with Fejer and then in 1929 at the University of Göttingen , where his interest in mathematical logic began. He then went to the University of Szeged , where he was initially the assistant to Frigyes Riesz and Alfréd Haar and was given a full professorship in mathematics in 1947. There he founded the cybernetics laboratory and dealt with mathematical logic and computer science.
After the war, Kalmar was regarded as the leading mathematical logician and pioneer of theoretical computer science in Hungary.
In 1949 he was admitted to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 1950 he received the Kossuth Prize and in 1975 the Hungarian State Prize. In 1996 he received the Computer Pioneer Award .
