László Kocsis (archaeologist)

László Kocsis (born December 2, 1949 in Kráľovský Chlmec (Hungarian: Királyhelmec), Czechoslovakia ) is a Hungarian provincial Roman archaeologist .

Life

In 1969, Kocsis attended the Hungarian trade school in Košice . Between 1973 and 1978 he studied Provincial Roman Archeology as well as Prehistory and Protohistory at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest . In 1979 he completed his studies with a master's thesis on Roman weapons and equipment (helmets and masked helmets) in Pannonia. From 1978 to 1989 he worked as an archaeologist at the Budapest History Museum . With another thesis on the Roman military equipment in Pannonia, in particular the shields and helmets that he presented at the Eötvös Loránd University, he received his doctorate in 1994 and moved to the Hungarian National Museum in 1989 . To this day he is employed there as an archaeologist and curator of the archaeological collection. In the past he has also given seminars at Eötvös Loránd University and Gothenburg University on ancient weapons and excavation techniques. He has also directed various provincial Roman exhibitions in Hungary, Germany and Italy.
