Léman 2030

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Léman 2030 is a railway project in the area of the name-giving Lac Léman (Lake Geneva).

background

In the 2000s, the volume of passenger transport on the Lausanne – Geneva line roughly doubled, from 25,000 to 50,000 passengers a day. Until Template: future / in 5 years2030 a further doubling to over 100,000 people is expected. Léman 2030 is intended to provide for this development.

planning

The heart of the expansion is the Lausanne train station ; From 2021, the platforms are to be extended to 420 meters and track access is to be improved with additional underpasses. This extension enables the use of 400 m long Bombardier Twindexx double compositions with a seating capacity of 1050.

The construction of the new train station in Prilly-Malley , a district of Lausanne, has already been completed . This is followed by the expansion of the Renens –Lausanne line from three to four lanes with an overpass . The goal of these buildings is the quarter-hourly S-Bahn between Cully and Cossonay .

On Renens station an additional track is built. Access for disabled people or strollers should also be improved. In addition to the existing pedestrian underpass in the east, an overpass is to be built in the west of the station. The construction work is scheduled to last from 2014 to 2019 and is budgeted at 172 million francs.

In Geneva, Cornavin station will be extended by two underground tracks and the La Plaine stop will be extended to 225 meters. Other smaller structures are planned between Lausanne and Geneva, for example a platform-free passing track between Coppet and Founex so that slower freight trains can be passed quickly, and crossing points in Mies and Chambésy .

Consequences of the conversion for rail traffic

During construction, the capacity of the Lausanne station will be reduced and the Renens – Lausanne line can only accommodate 16 trains per hour. The direct Basel – Biel – Lausanne train will be postponed by half an hour (ie half an hour of waiting time or additional transfers for travelers from Germany), and for travelers from Aarau, Olten and Solothurn to Lausanne there will be transfers with 10 to 15 minutes of additional travel time . There are additional transfers for travelers from Basel to Geneva, but without additional travel time.
