Léon Brunin
Léon Brunin (also Léon de Meuter, born November 20, 1861 in Antwerp , † March 13, 1949 ibid) was a Belgian painter and etcher and art teacher.
Brunin studied at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen , first with the sculptor Frans Joris, then with the painters Charles Verlat and Polydore Beaufax.
Turning away from the modern styles, he was inspired by the painting Rembrandt van Rijn . He was also influenced by Ferdinand de Braekeleer the Elder. Brunin's pictures faithfully portray the Netherlands in the seventeenth century.
In Antwerp in 1883 he was a founding member of the artist group “Als Ik Kan” (if I can). In 1886 he was appointed professor at the Antwerp Academy. From 1886 he was friends with the Dutch artists Matthijs Maris , Jacob Maris , Hendrik Willem Mesdag , Lawrence Alma-Tadema and the Italian painter Giovanni Segantini .
Léon Bruni was appointed Officer of the Order of the Crown and Knight of the Order of Leopold .
