Léon Pierre Herpin [ ɛʀˈpɛ̃ˑ ] (born October 12, 1841 in Granville , † October 25, 1880 in Paris ) was a French painter .

Life

As a student of the landscape painters Jules André , Charles Busson and Charles-François Daubigny, Herpin received an extremely comprehensive education.

At the age of 27, Herpin made her debut at the Paris Salon in 1868 with two landscape paintings that were still entirely in the style of Daubigny. Herpin demonstrated his own style in the exhibitions of the Paris Salon in 1878 and 1879. In monumental works he created landscapes, mostly in the morning or evening mood, and with which he could outstrip his teachers.

In 1883, on the occasion of an exhibition of French art in the Munich Glass Palace, there was a retrospective overview of Herpin's work.
