Léon Werner Bovy (born October 19, 1863 in Geneva ; † January 31, 1950 there ) was a Swiss architect , draftsman and politician .

Education and employment

The son of an enamel painter and stamp cutter came from a family originally from Vaud, where many relatives worked in similar professions, including medalists, engravers and painters. Bovy studied, without knowing more, at the École des arts industriels and drawing at the École des beaux arts with Barthélemy Menn . From 1879 he worked in the architectural office of Émile Reverdin . His own architectural activity is essentially limited to the period from 1895 to the First World War, after which he increasingly occupied himself with politics.

His main architectural work is probably the parish hall of Eaux-Vives , a Heimatstil building from 1909, in the fast-growing, noble suburb of Geneva. The picturesque ensemble, which is dominated by a clock tower, houses not only the town hall function but also other business and service functions such as the post office and telegraph office, an automobile club and private apartments in an entire wing of the building. In addition to a few other public buildings such as the Montchoisy schoolhouse, the public reading room of the library and the trade school, as well as some buildings used for business purposes such as B. the Hôtel Touring-Balance, Bovy built mainly and mainly residential buildings, from workers' apartments to luxury apartments. Since he belonged to many real estate companies, he often built on speculative grounds in the growing suburbs such as Eaux-Vives and Plainpalais, where he not only built individual houses, but also whole blocks of buildings.

Magazine editor, professional politics and politics

Bovy was the founder and editor of a magazine on Geneva art, Nos anciens et leurs œvres, recueil d'art genevois ( Eng . 'Our ancestors and their works, Collection of Geneva Art' ), which appeared from 1901 to 1920.

Bovy belonged to numerous associations, such as the Societé des Arts and the Societé pour l'Amelioration du Logement. From 1897 to 1928 he was a member of the Geneva section of the SIA .

From 1915 he was a member of the municipal council of Plainpalais , 1918, he joined the executive. From 1922 a member of the Geneva Grand Council as a member of the Union de défense économique , Bovy was a co-founder of the Union genevoise des interêts immobiliers and its president from 1930 to 1938.
