The Löffelblättrige saxifrage ( Saxifraga cochlearis ) is a species in the genus saxifrage ( Saxifraga ) in the family Saxifragaceae (Saxifragaceae).

features

The spoon-leaved saxifrage is a perennial plant that reaches heights of 5 to 40 centimeters. It forms numerous non-flowering rosettes in flat cushions . The rosette leaves are 8 to 40 millimeters long, 3 to 6 millimeters wide, spatulate to spoon-shaped and gray-green. At the top they are broadly rounded, blunt or slightly pointed. The leaf margin is slightly rolled up, not serrated and covered with lime-secreting pits. The stem is reddish-brown in color, thin, hairy glandular, upright or arching and branched from the center to densely paniculate . There are 1 to 3 flowers per panicle branch. The petals are oblong-egg-shaped.

Flowering time is from June to July.

The species has chromosome number 2n = 28.

Occurrence

The spoon-leaved saxifrage occurs in the Maritime Alps and the Ligurian Alps montane and subalpine in the cracks and crevices of limestone cliffs at altitudes of up to 1900 meters.
