Löwenburg

The Löwenburg or Hünensaut in which is named after her former village and today Bielefeld district Lämershagen-Gräfinghagen is a Wallenburg a high medieval hilltop castle in Teutoburg Forest from the second half of the 12th century . The small facility, almost 50 meters in diameter, is located on the eastern crest of the Lewenberg above the steep slope of the Markengrund cut , which divides the southern ridge of the Osnings here .

Bernhard II. Freiherr zur Lippe wanted to secure the founding of the village in the disputed border area to the county of Ravensberg with this castle in 1177 . As the name of the castle suggests, Bernhard zu Lippe was a partisan of Henry the Lion . Just one year after the start of construction, Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa led a campaign against Henry the Lion, in which the castle was probably destroyed again. Then the border between Ravensberg and Lippe stabilized east of the castle on the Menkhauser Bach (also Schopke ). The Counts of Ravensberg, now again owners of the mountain, did not need an additional castle just nine kilometers southeast of their headquarters, the Bielefelder Sparrenburg .
