L'Agefi is a Swiss daily newspaper that mainly contains economic and financial information as well as political news affecting the economy. It was founded in 1950 by Jean Hussard and is published by "AGEFI, Société de l'Agence Economique et Financière SA" (Agefi SA for short). The (uncertified) circulation has halved from 10,000 to 5,000 copies due to the newspaper's financial difficulties. The online portal agefi.com reaches over 840,000 unique clients and 1,850,000 page impressions per year.

General

The newspaper's headquarters are in Lausanne , Canton of Vaud . It also has several offices, including in Zurich, Bern and Geneva as well as in Brussels, France, Great Britain and Italy. She publishes several supplements and magazines every month.

L'Agefi sees itself as a niche product for an upscale target group from finance and business, for asset managers, private and institutional investors, trustees, lawyers, managers, etc. Politics is mainly reported where it determines the economy. L'Agefi also has two political journalists in Bern for this purpose.

history

L'Agefi was founded in Zurich in 1950 by the French journalist Jean Hussard, who worked for the French daily newspaper L'Agefi of the same name , published by the "L'Agence économique et financière" (L'Agefi France), founded by Robert Bollack in Paris in 1911. In 1980 the newspaper, which was in financial difficulties, was taken over by L'Agefi France and relocated first to Geneva and then to Lausanne. In 1984 Jean-Pierre Peyraud and Bruno Bertez bought L'Agefi France, but after the cost-intensive launch of the La Tribune and a conflict with the CGT union , they sold the company together with the weekly La Vie française (today: La Vie financière ) in 1987 the business press group "L'Expansion" controlled by Jean-Louis Servan-Schreiber (publisher of the monthly magazine L'Expansion ). After further acquisitions in Europe, the group was renamed “L'Eurexpansion”. As a result of the marked slump in advertising revenues in the early 1990s, Servan-Schreiber had to sell the group to Christian Brégou's “Compagnie Européenne de Publication” (CEP) in 1994.

Even before that, in the first quarter of 1993, Servan-Schreiber sold Agefi SA with share capital of CHF 1.965 million to its general manager Alain Fabarez (1945–2013). Emmanuel Garessus became editor-in-chief. In order to be able to devote itself mainly to the daily newspaper, the company decided to sell its 50% stake in Agedip SA, which published the monthly magazine Bilan , to the co-shareholder, the Lausanne publisher Edipresse . The AK was reduced to CHF 665,000 and the company was incorporated into “L'Agefi Holding SA”. In 1996, Agefi Com SA was founded in Geneva as a further subsidiary of L'Agefi Holding SA, with share capital of CHF 200,000.

In 1999 L'Agefi Holding SA was renamed “Agefi Groupe SA” (AGEN) and was listed on the SWX Swiss Exchange . The newspaper now increasingly wanted to be a generalist. In 2004 L'Agefi went through a crisis, editorial director Emmanuel Garessus and editor-in-chief Pierre Vaya left the newspaper and moved to Le Temps .

At the end of 2006, the Genolier Clinic Group merged with Agefi Groupe SA to form AGEN Holding SA in order to obtain listing on the stock exchange . In February 2009, AGEN Holding SA renamed itself Genolier Swiss Medical Network SA (today part of AEVIS Holding SA, Friborg) and sold 51% of Agefi SA for 5 million CHF to the controversial French-Swiss company in the luxury goods and real estate sector and Alain Duménil, a businessman who works as a supplier to the French defense industry.

On March 1, 2009, François Schaller (former editor-in-chief of PME Magazine et Private banking ) joined the company as a delegate, editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper L'Agefi and publisher of its supplements and magazines. L'Agefi now concentrated more on economic and financial issues. Since July 1, 2013, Olivier Bloch, together with Roland Ray, is the owner of the advertising marketing company Mediapresse - Pub SA, the company's new General Manager. In 2013, Agefi SA completely took over the Lausanne-based company MediaCity, founded in 2011 (with the lifestyle magazines Agefi Life, Profil, Work and Capital Santé ), which it had already owned 50%.

In 2016, the editorial team moved from Lausanne to the suburb of Echandens in offices of AEVIS Holding, which holds 49% of L'Agefi's share capital .

FDP National Councilor Fathi Derder has led L'Agefi as editor-in-chief since May 1, 2017, and Luc Petitfrère has been the new editor-in-chief since mid-June.
