A group of adolescents in a French suburb is rehearsing the play The Play of Love and Chance by Marivaux in French class . Abdelkrim, known as Krimo, who is initially not involved in the play, falls in love with Lydia. To get closer to Lydia, he exchanges some of his belongings with Rachid for the male lead in the play. Failing to escape his shy nature, he embarrassingly fails both as an actor and in his attempt to get close to Lydia.

The film was shot in the Franc-Moisin district, part of the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis . Mainly amateur actors were used. The film had its French premiere on November 25, 2003 at the Belfort Entrevues Film Festival and was released in French cinemas on January 7, 2004. The film opened in German cinemas on March 10, 2005.
