L. Neil Smith
Lester Neil Smith [ ˈlɛstəɹ ˈniːl ˈsmɪθ ] (born May 15, 1946 in Denver , Colorado ) is an American science fiction writer , political libertarian activist and globalization critic .
Life
Lester Neil Smith deals with the alternative course of history and is the inventor of a parallel world , the so-called Gallatin Universe, in which American history in the 18th century by chance took a different course. In the Gallatin universe, George Washington was shot dead during the Whiskey Rebellion , after which Albert Gallatin became president. So the United States of North America could not come into being and a loose association of states with an anarchist form of government takes its place . He is also known for three stories about the character of Lando Calrissian from the Star Wars universe .
For four of his novels he received the Prometheus Award of the Libertarian Futurist Society , which he himself launched in 1979, for the best novel of the year. These goods:
- 1982: The Probability Broach
- 1994: Pallas
- 2001: The Forge of the Elders
- 2005: The Probability Broach: The Graphic Novel , Special Award
In 2016 he received the Prometheus Special Award for his life's work.
