Truck model making

Magirus-Deutz truck as a Brekina model

The truck model is a division of modeling the most as' hobby is running.

The large originals are reproduced on a smaller scale. It is the intention of the model builder to recreate the original as detailed as possible.

Preferred standards are:

  • 1: 8 (R.Schink)
  • 1:12 (MTS Bönning)
  • 1: 13.2 ( Tamiya )
  • 1: 14.5 (ScaleART + Stahl-Modellbau, Wedico, Robbe)
  • 1:16 (seal)
  • 1: 24–1: 25 (Revell + small trucks)
  • 1:32 ( Siku + Universal Hobbies )
  • 1:87 ( Herpa etc.)

Two groups have emerged in truck model making: on the one hand, the standing models, which can usually be admired in showcases, and the so-called functional truck models, which are brought to life with sometimes very complex, mostly electrical aids. The energy for the functionality is usually carried in special battery packs that are hidden in the model.

The ever advancing miniaturization of remote control technology has in recent years led to ever smaller truck models being built. So models in scale 1:87 (this corresponds to the railway scale H0 ) are built as functional models . In the meantime (as of 2006) there are also industrially manufactured radio-controlled trucks on this scale.

With these models, the technology used by the big ones is often reproduced true to the original and naturally functioning on the appropriate scale.

Realizable radio remote-controlled functions are z. B .:

  • stepless driving function
  • stepless steering functions, e.g. T. on several axes
  • Switching on all possible lighting functions
    • Driving lights,
    • Reversing lights,
    • Cornering light,
    • Work lighting,
    • Additional headlights,
    • High beam,
    • Brake light,
    • Fog lights
  • hydraulic steering, drive and crane functions
  • Switching of multi-stage transmissions
  • Braking function
  • built-in cameras with radio transmission systems
  • Coupling and uncoupling of trailers and attachments (e.g. agricultural equipment)
  • Switching the differential locks
  • windshield wipers

It has formed its own branch of industry . There are some large model builders who manufacture and sell truck kits and kits . On the other hand, there are a large number of small companies that usually offer components in small series production in order to embellish or expand these models, or even manufacture entire models.

Because of the relatively high costs due to the small series production, this branch of model construction is not spreading as widely. This division also has to struggle with obsolescence, as a young person usually cannot raise the 500 to 5000 euros for this hobby that you have to spend for a construction kit and the necessary accessories such as remote control , tools, servos and batteries .

From the functional model construction, another branch has emerged, namely the construction of:

championship

In 1991, the model trucks also got together and launched the German Minitruck Championship . Both driving skills and building skills are assessed here.
