It was founded in 1906 as the “Provincial Healing and Care Institution Süchteln-Johannistal”. In the Third Reich , the sanatorium and nursing home Süchteln-Johannistal - Waldniel department was subdivided into Waldniel-Hostert .
The foundation stone for a large new building was laid on January 26, 2016.
