The LVR-Klinikum Essen is a university psychiatric hospital and psychosomatic specialist hospital with the main building at Virchowstraße 174 in Essen - Holsterhausen . The Rhineland Regional Council is responsible for this . As a clinical center of the University of Duisburg-Essen, it is responsible for research and teaching in the subjects of psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy, psychiatry and psychotherapy, and child and adolescent psychiatry. Medical students of the Medical Faculty of the University of Duisburg-Essen experience their training in the psych subjects at the corresponding chairs.

history

Forerunner was the psychiatric department of the city hospitals, 1973 psychiatric clinic of the University Hospital Essen . In 1974 it was taken over by the Rhineland Regional Council (LVR) and opened as the Rheinische Kliniken Essen. The main building was built in 1974 and renovated from 2012 to 2014. The Occupational Therapy School, now the Occupational Therapy School, was founded in 1975. The Clinic for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy was opened in 1977, the Institute for Forensic Psychiatry started operations in 1979. In 2004 the Clinic for Dependent Behavior and Addiction Medicine was opened in 2004, the Clinic for Forensic Psychiatry was opened in 2009. The new day clinic for child and adolescent psychiatry was opened in Mülheim in 2011.

The new building of the LVR-Klinikum Essen on Wickenburgstrasse in Frohnhausen was opened in January 2012. The clinic for psychiatry, psychosomatics and psychotherapy of children and adolescents located there has five wards with a total of 50 beds. The clinic also has a day clinic in Altenessen and Mülheim an der Ruhr with a total of 31 places. The LVR clinic location in Heidhausen on Barkhovenallee was given up.
