La Chute ( French for "waterfall") is the 5.6 km long drainage of Lake George to Lake Champlain in Essex County of the US state of New York . In doing so, he overcomes a difference in altitude of 68 m.
The river and its surrounding area were historically of military-strategic importance, as it represented an important portage between the British-controlled valley of the Hudson River and the French-controlled Saint Lawrence River area. The Fort Ticonderoga is close to its mouth into Lake Champlain.
The settlement of Ticonderoga is on the course of the river. There is also the Carillon Falls waterfall .
