General

The town of La Frontera and its district of Tigaday have together overtaken El Hierro's capital Valverde in size and population. The town hall (Ayuntamiento) of the municipality is in the district of Tigaday and has been its administrative seat since 1912.

The beautiful old church Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria is located in the Plaza de Candelaria , from where the only street, the Carretera General , winds in many serpentines into the Gulf Valley. The Lucha-Canaria-Arena is right next to the church . Here the Canary Islands wrestling match, the Lucha Canaria , takes place in the open air .
