La Maroma is a mountain in Andalusia , southern Spain , the summit of which is at an altitude of 2066  msnm .

Geography, naming

The southern part of the mountain is in the Axarquía district in the province of Málaga . There is also the highest point in the province. The northern part of the mountain belongs to the district of Alhama de Granada and thus to the province of Granada . The summit of La Maroma is therefore in the province of Granada.

Geographically, it belongs to the Cordillera Penibética and is part of the Parque Natural de las Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama .

The original name of the mountain was Tejeda . The Maroma, on the other hand, was used to describe an abyss that is closest to the mountain peak. When a few people met at this point, the mix-up came about and ultimately led to the renaming of the mountain.

Flora and fauna

In earlier centuries there were numerous yew trees at the foot and on the slopes of the Maroma . Today, on the other hand, there are pine trees , pines , wild oregano , various bushes, as well as mosses and lichens. In the vegetation there are nests of birds and innumerable insects , the slopes are populated by goats. Frogs can also live here, as many small pools fed by springs offer good conditions for the youth stage, the tadpoles . The mountain peak, on the other hand, is above the tree line .
