La Misma Gente is a Colombian salsa band .
Career
The group La Misma Gente was founded in 1978 in Palmira / Valle del Cauca , a town about 20 kilometers from the salsa metropolis of Cali . The founders of the band were students of the Colegio Champagnat , who initially played rock and pieces by Led Zeppelin or the Beatles . In 1986 La Misma Gente had their first hits with "Juanita aé" and "Titicó" and became known at the Feria de Cali . International tours to the USA and Europe followed . In 1987 the group had great success again at the Feria de Cali with “Caro Carolina” and “Rosalía, por qué Lloras?”. The next year with “Tu y Yo”, “No Hay Carretera” and “La Chica de Chicago”. With their song “Canto por la Paz” they sang for the victims of violence in Colombia . With “Palmira de mis Amores” or “Soy Palmirano”, La Misma Gente repeatedly referred to their homeland Palmira. In 1993, Jorge Herrera, the musical director, left the band.
