Remains of the monastery complex

Labbamolaga ( Irish Leaba Molaige - German  "Molagas bed" , English St. Molaga's Bed ) in the townland of Labbamolaga Middle ( Leaba Molaga Láir ), northwest of Mitchelstown in County Cork near the border with County Limerick in Ireland , is a to St. Molaga from Monastery named Timoleague. The remains of two red sandstone churches, mostly less than 1.0 m high, lie within a dry stone wall .

Oratorio

The oratory , the smaller church to the south, has ante and a west door made from one block with a separate lintel . The "St. Fanchan's Candlestick ”was placed at St Fanahan's College in Mitchelstown.

Parish church

The larger church in the north of the oratory is about 11.8 m long, 7.2 m wide and rectangular with a secondary part at the eastern end. Both areas have south portals. The original masonry and plinth at the base of the south wall suggest that the church was Romanesque but was in ruins in the 16th century. The entrance cannot be original. The western wall was rebuilt.

Cross stone

Between the churches there is a cross stone about 1.4 m high and 1.0 m wide with a ring cross on the west side and a simple cross on the east side. Both crosses are designed as a relief and largely cover the available space. A number of “ curse stones ” were found on the site and were seized .

Labbamolaga standing stones

The four stones are in a field immediately south of the Labbamolaga monastery ( Lage ). It is not certain whether these stones are part of a Bronze Age stone circle or the remains of a row of stones , the missing stones of which were used in the construction of the door of the oratory.
