The Lake Kipawa is a lake in the administrative region Abitibi-Témiscamingue in the western Canadian province of Quebec .
The Lac Kipawa has an area of 284 km². The main tributary is the Rivière Kipawa . This also forms the natural runoff at the northwestern end of the lake. The outflow of the Rivière Kipawa near Laniel is regulated by the Laniel dam . The Kipawa Dam near Kipawa , built in 1911, allows the lake to flow further. A small part of the water of Lac Kipawa flows over the Ruisseau Gordon directly to the Ottawa River below Lac Témiscamingue . The storage space of the outflow-regulated lake is 673 million m³.
There are plans for a hydroelectric power plant that will take advantage of the difference in altitude between Lac Kipawa and Lac Témiscamingue. The water would be diverted and the lower reaches of the Rivière Kipawa would be missing.
