Lac Minto ( English Lake Minto ; Inuktitut : Qasigialik ("where there are Largha seals ")) is a lake in the west of the Ungava Peninsula , in the Nunavik region in the Canadian province of Québec .
It has a total area (including islands) of 761 km² and a water area of 703 km².
It was named by the Canadian explorer and geologist Albert Peter Low in 1898 after Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 4th Earl of Minto , who was Governor General of Canada at the time.
It is located just 60 km east of Hudson Bay in a valley framed by several ranges of hills. Its outflow, the Rivière aux Feuilles , flows about 265 km northeast to Ungava Bay . It is therefore suitable for canoeists who want to cross the Ungava Peninsula in an easterly direction.
It is considered to be one of the most beautiful lakes in northern Québec.
