Ladislav Švanda (born February 14, 1959 in Prague ) is a former Czechoslovak cross-country skier .

Career

Švanda, who started for the Dukla Liberec , ran his first World Cup individual race in March 1982 in Štrbské Pleso and took 18th place over 15 km. In the 1984/85 season he reached eighth place in Falun over 30 km and seventh place in Oslo over 15 km, 25th place in the overall World Cup, his best overall result in the World Cup. In February 1986 he repeated his best individual placement in the World Cup over 15 km with seventh place in Kawgolowo . At the 1987 World Championships in Oberstdorf he came in 13th place over 30 km classic, ninth place over 50 km freestyle and fourth place with the relay. He had his greatest success the following year at the Winter Olympics in Calgary . There he won the bronze medal with the relay. In the individual races he ran on 19th place over 15 km classic, 17th place over 30 km classic and 15th place over 50 km freestyle. At the World Championships in Lahti in February 1989 , he again won the bronze medal with the relay. He also achieved 17th place over 15 km freestyle and 30 km classic. His last World Cup race he completed in March 1990 in Örnsköldsvik , which he finished in third place with the relay. In 1989 he won the Engadin Skimarathon over 42 km and in 1991 the King Ludwig Run over 53 km classic.

At the Czechoslovak Championships Švanda won seven times with the relay of Dukla Liberec (1982-1984, 1986, 1988-1990) and three times over 15 km (1987, 1989, 1990).
