Ladislav Kupkovič

Ladislav Kupkovič (born March 17, 1936 in Bratislava , † June 15, 2016 in Haste ) was a Slovak composer and conductor.

Life

After studying from 1950 to 1961, he was a violinist with the Slovak Philharmonic for five years. The native Slovak fled to Germany at the time, where he also took German citizenship . He became known in 1970 for his "convertible concerts", during which the audience could walk through the orchestra. His work includes over 500 titles for film and theater music, three operas , seven symphonies , ten string quartets as well as other sonatas and concert pieces.

He lived in Haste near Hanover and had been a professor at the Hanover University of Music and Drama since 1978 , as well as being a member of the Hanover Art Association . One of his two daughters ( Danica Kupkovic ) is an actress and teaches at the Detmold University of Music .
