Ladislav Zívr

Ladislav Zívr (born May 23, 1909 in Nová Paka , † September 4, 1980 in Ždírec u Staré Paky , Czechoslovakia ) was an important Czech sculptor of the 20th century.

life and work

Ladislav Zívr went to the Vysoká škola umělecko-průmyslová v Praze (Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague). Clay became his preferred material, although he also mastered other techniques, such as assemblage or plaster of paris in combination with other materials. Many of his sculptures are made of wood or stone.

In the 1940s he became a member of Skupina 42 , an artist group in which he was the only sculptor.

Zívr produced numerous works designed in the style of Cubism and Surrealism . His works initially depicted artisans and musicians in connection with tools or instruments. Later he created works with biomorphic forms that he took from nature.

In 1966 he took part in the first sculpture symposium in Hořice , where sandstone was cut. Works by him are u. a. in the gallery of modern arts in Hradec Králové .
