Lady Hamilton Op. 23 is an operetta in three acts by Eduard Künneke ( music ) with a libretto by Richard Bars and Leopold Jacobson . The plot is freely based on the life of the scandalous Emma Hamilton (1765-1815), Lord Nelson's mistress .

action

Amy Lyons works as a singer in a harbor bar, where she meets the English ambassador, Lord William Hamilton, whose mistress and later his wife. But the Spanish naval officer Alfredo also falls in love with Amy. When he falls into English captivity, Amy becomes Lord Nelson's mistress in order to secure Alfredo's release.

An English adaptation of the operetta (libretto: Arthur Wimperis and Lauri Wylie ) was performed on September 6, 1928 under the title The Song of the Sea in His Majesty's Theater, London .

In 2004, a revision of the operetta was performed at the Cologne Opera, directed by Michael Bogdanov . The Anhaltisches Theater Dessau is presenting a new production by Lady Hamilton directed by Johannes Weigand for the 2016/17 season (premiere January 27, 2017).
