The Lago Panguipulli is a lake in the south of Chile .
It is located in the north of the XIV. Region ( Región de los Ríos ) between the cities of Panguipulli and Choshuenco .
The Lago Panguipulli, a glacial lake from the Ice Age , has an area of around 117 km² (with a length of 28.3 km and a width of 5 km) and a maximum depth of 268 m. To the east of the lake rise the Choshuenco volcanoes with a height of 2415 m and the Mocho, which last erupted in 1863 and is 2422 m high .
The city of Panguipulli is located directly on the west bank of the deep blue and crystal clear lake and is a tourist center. The lake is rich in fish, among other things trout and salmon are caught there.
60 km northeast of Panguipulli is the Reserva Nacional Mocho Choshuenco nature reserve . The area is very wooded.
history
Francisco de Villagra discovered the lake in 1553 for western cultures . The settlement of the village of Panguipulli began in 1885 , but the city was not officially founded until 1946 .
economy
Tourism, fishing and forestry play an important role in the area. The lake is ideal for sailing and fishing.
