Lagoon is a French shipyard for cruising catamarans , part of CNB ( Construction Navale de Bordeaux ) (part of Groupe Bénéteau ).

history

Lagoon was founded in 1984 as a subsidiary of Jeanneau Technologies Avancées (JTA) - the "racing division" of Jeanneau . Up until this point, JTA had produced award-winning ocean - going sailing boats and multihulls for racing (e.g. Pierre 1er, the Fleury Michon series, etc.). Today Lagoon is part of CNB, which belongs to Groupe Bénéteau.

The design of the catamarans is developed by Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot Prévost (VPLP), who also designed the trimaran for Oracle, which won the America's Cup in  2010. Nauta Design has been responsible for the interior design of the new models since 2010 .

The first generation of series catamarans was developed for private individuals for cruising between 1987 and 1996 - including the Lagoon 47, Lagoon 55, Lagoon 57 and Lagoon 67 models. The Lagoon 37 and Lagoon 42 models were designed for the charter market . From 1996 a second generation was brought onto the market, with which more space and comfort should be offered. The current model range includes Lagoon 380, Lagoon 39, Lagoon 400 S2, Lagoon 421, Lagoon 450, Lagoon 52, Lagoon 560 S2 and Lagoon 620.

In 2003 Lagoon took over the market leadership in cruising catamarans. Lagoon is the third largest shipyard for sailboats and the largest catamaran shipyard in the world. Over 300 catamarans leave the Lagoon shipyards every year. The Lagoon catamarans between 38 and 45 feet are manufactured in a shipyard in Belleville-sur-Vie in the Vendée department . The shipyard for catamarans from 52 feet is located in Bordeaux together with CNB on a shipyard site. There the custom catamarans over 62 feet are individually built according to customer requirements.

An extraordinary project was the construction of the trimaran for the film Waterworld by Lagoon.
