Lagunes (former region)

Lagunes (French: lagoons ) was an administrative unit of the highest sub-national level in the Ivory Coast from 1997 to 2011 . The capital of the region was Abidjan , and its area was 13,223 km². After an administrative reform in 2011, the name Lagunes was transferred to part of the former region. The area was divided into the autonomous district of Abidjan and the new District des Lagunes formed with parts of the former Agnéby region .

Before its dissolution, the region consisted of seven departments : Abidjan , Alépé , Dabou , Grand-Lahou , Jacqueville , Sikensi and Tiassalé (the Département de Sikensi was only separated from the Dabou department in 2005).
