The San Geronimo Creek (also known locally as Paper Mill Creek ) flows through both settlements and is one of the few remaining spawning grounds for silver salmon .
Lagunitas and Forest Knolls are located in the western half of the San Geronimo Valley and reach up the wooded slopes in the south and the more grassy slopes in the north.
Lagunitas is located on the eastern border of Samuel P. Taylor State Park . Like the park itself, the area around Lagunitas-Forest Knolls is overgrown with coniferous forests.
