Laila Selbæk (born November 24, 1981 , real name Laila Selbæk Rønning ) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier .

Career

Selbæk, who started for the Strindheim IL and the Meldal IL, had her first international success at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2000 in Štrbské Pleso . There she won the bronze medal with the relay. In the following year she took 26th place over 5 km classic at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Karpacz . At the unofficial U23 World Championships in 2002 and at the same time the Continental Cup in Val di Fiemme , she achieved 26th place in the sprint, 21st place in the 15 km mass start race and 17th place in the skiathlon . She made her debut in the cross-country skiing world cup in March 2002 in Oslo , which she finished in 57th place in the sprint. At the unofficial U23 World Championships in 2003 in Valdidentro , she won the bronze medal in the skiathlon. In March 2003 in Oslo she got her first and only World Cup points with 28th place over 30 km classic. In the 2005/06 season she came in the Scandinavian Cup with four top ten placements in ninth place in the overall standings. She completed her sixth and last World Cup race in March 2006 in Oslo, which she finished in 40th place over 30 km freestyle. She has been married to cross-country skier Eldar Rønning since August 2010 .
