Lajos Winkler
Lajos Winkler (German: Ludwig Wilhelm Winkler ; born May 21, 1863 in Arad , † April 14, 1939 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian chemist and pharmacist . In 1888 he developed a method that is still frequently used today to determine the amount of oxygen dissolved in water .
Life
Winkler studied chemistry at the University of Budapest and received his doctorate there in 1890 under Károly Thán . After a short period of assistance, he was appointed professor of chemistry in 1902 and, in 1909, was appointed head of the Institute of Chemistry as the successor to the late von Than. In 1922 Winkler became a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences .
