Lackey sheep farm

The Lakaienschäferei in Neunkirchen (Saar) is a former living space that now houses several leisure facilities. Among other things, there is the combined bath "Die Lakai", which was named after the place.

location

The site is located in a depression near the Kasbruchtal on Limbacher Strasse between Neunkirchen and its Furpach district . The A8 motorway crosses the area. It is bounded "in the east by the country road to Furpach, in the north by the BAB 8, in the west by Kirkeler Strasse and in the south by the Kirkeler Wald".

history

The history of the area can be traced back to the 16th century. However, there must have been settlements there earlier, because a millstone from the Neolithic Age was found there in 1935 . The area was already entered on a map by Tilemann Stella in 1564, albeit still nameless. A pond was created at this point by filling up various dams to make the path from Neunkirchen towards Forbacher Hof (today: Furpach) accessible. It was baptized “Laquayenweiher” from 1585 at the earliest, because it served to take care of the servants in the princely Renaissance castle on the Upper Market.

After 1740 a sheep farm was built. This initially had the name "Sheep at the Laquaienweiher", which for the sake of simplicity was later shortened to "Laquayenschäferei" and gives the site its current name. The sheep farm was looted by French revolutionary troops in 1793 . The area was sold under Napoleon Bonaparte . This is how the Saarbrücken merchant Johann Caspar Karcher came to the site, which remained in the family until 1904. The building was probably used as a residential building. In 1849, three Catholic residents were mentioned in a statistical survey. In 1904 the site was bought and leased by the city of Neunkirchen. In 1911, the football club Borussia Neunkirchen wanted to build a football field there, but this did not happen because the club was allowed to convert its original site at Friedrichspark into a stadium. The site was leased, but the site could hardly be used profitably.

From 1925, plans arose to use the area for sport. A stadium with a sports field was set up from 1927/28 and in the 1930s the Volkssonnengarten open-air swimming pool with camping area was set up, which belonged to the association for natural living and healing (Prießnitz association). During the Third Reich, the area was used for other purposes and served as a school for the Hitler Youth . They also wanted to use the old sheep farm again. A commandant's office should be set up there. But the building was in too poor a structural condition. The Hitler Youth used the area as a tent camp and built bunkers in the area. The area was also used for dog training. The area was bombed during World War II . There were many bomb craters on the site, but the buildings remained largely intact.

Todays use

After the Second World War, the Prießnitz-Bad fell back to the association. The association, which was significantly influenced by the teachings of Emanuel Felke , Sebastian Kneipp and the eponymous Vincenz Prießnitz , continued to operate the bath from 1948. Operations had to be stopped in 2011. In 1968 a campsite was set up which is mainly used by long-term campers. Due to financial difficulties of the main club, the hockey and tennis club Neunkirchen eV became legally independent.

After the war, the old shepherd's house was used to accommodate athletes, guest workers, forest workers and asylum seekers. The International Police Association has been running a guest house there since 2007 .

On June 6, 1959, a hockey field for VfB Borussia Neunkirchen was set up. A clubhouse followed four years later. In 1979 and 1980 a second hockey field and tennis courts were added.

In May 2009 the Neunkirchen combined pool Die Lakai opened on the site. The sports pool has one swimmer and one non-swimmer pool both indoors and outdoors and a paddling pool. A wellness area with a sauna is located in the building.

The area is also used by the Nerother Wandervögeln, the dog sports club SV OG NK-Furpach and the club for endurance sports (VfA).

Since 2011 there has been a rain retention basin at the site of the old lackey pond , which catches the dirty water from the motorway.
