Lake Aniwhenua is a reservoir in the Whakatāne District on the North Island of New Zealand .
geography
The lake is located in the middle reaches of the Rangitaiki River in the Galatea Plains and thus west of the Te Urewera National Park . To the south of the lake is the village of Murupara and to the north of it is Lake Matahina . With an average depth of 2.5 meters, the lake is quite shallow for a reservoir. There are deeper spots in the area of the flooded former river bed.

Farming is practiced on the east bank of the lake and the west bank is overgrown with bushes. The lake can be crossed by bridges at both ends. You can fish for brown trout and rainbow trout in the lake .
