Harry Whittle
Harry Whittle (born May 2, 1922 in Bolton , Greater Manchester , † May 11, 1990 ibid) was a British hurdler and long jumper .
At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 he was seventh in the long jump and reached the semifinals over 400 m hurdles .
In 1950 he started for England at the British Empire Games in Auckland fifth over 440 yard hurdles and in the long jump and tenth in the triple jump . At the European Athletics Championships in Brussels , he won bronze over 400 m hurdles; in the long jump he qualified for the final, but did not compete there.
At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , he was fifth in the 400 m hurdles.
He was English champion seven times over 440 yard hurdles (1947-1953), twice in the long jump (1947, 1949) and once each over 220 yard hurdles (1953) and in the decathlon (1950).
