Lake Hope is a lake on the eastern flank of the San Miguel Peak , over whose summit the border between San Miguel County in the north and Dolores County in the southwest and San Juan County in the south runs. The lake is located in the southwest of the US state of Colorado , about 1,500 meters east of the main summit and north of the east summit at 3,617 m above sea level. Fuller Peak and Vermillion Peak are about two kilometers to the northeast.
The lake has an area of about 14 hectares and its shore length is about 2000 m. It is fed from the southwest by a stream that connects several ponds. It belongs to the Uncompahgre National Forest , but lies above the tree line . The lake's natural outflow is Lake Fork , which pours into the Groundhog Gulch after a few kilometers with no significant tributaries to the northwest .
