Coordinates: 33 ° 2 ′ S , 151 ° 38 ′ E The City of Lake Macquarie is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 648.6 km² and has about 197,000 inhabitants.
Lake Macquarie is located in the southern Hunter region on the Pacific coast about 150 km northeast of the metropolis of Sydney . The area includes 115 hamlets and hamlets, including Awaba, Belmont , Cardiff, Charlestown, Cooranbong, Dora Creek, Glendale, Killingworth, Martinsville, Morisset, Mount Hutton, Speers Point, Swansea, Toronto, Warners Bay and part of Wyee. The City Council is located at Speers Point at the north end of Lake Macquarie.

Lake Macquarie City Council has 13 members who are elected by LGA residents. Four members each come from the three wards North, East and West, the chairman and mayor is also elected by all residents of the LGA. The three electoral districts are determined independently of the localities.
