The Lake Vereteno ( English , Russian Озеро Веретено Ozero Wereteno , German , spindle lake ' ) is a narrow, 2.5 km long lake on the Ingrid Christensen Coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth country . It is located 2.5 km south of the Luncke Ridge in the northeastern part of the Breidnes Peninsula in the Vestfold Mountains .
The first aerial photos of the lake were taken during the US operation Highjump (1946–1947). This was followed by further recordings between 1954 and 1958 during campaigns as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions and in 1956 during a Soviet Antarctic expedition. Its participants gave the lake the name based on its shape. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia translated this from Russian into English on June 28, 1962.
