The Lake Waikaremoana is a lake in Te Urewera National Park on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island . It was formed 2200 years ago by a landslide that dammed the Waikaretaheke River . The Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk , one of the New Zealand Great Walks, runs along its south and west banks .
