Lake Zvezda

The Lake Zvezda ( Russian Озеро Звезда Ossero Zvezda , German , Sternsee ' ) is a large and irregularly shaped lake on the Ingrid Christensen Coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth country . It is located 800 m southeast of Lake Cowan in the eastern part of the Vestfold Mountains .

Aerial photos of the lake were taken during the US Operation Highjump (1946–1947). It was mapped using aerial photographs taken in 1956 by a Soviet Antarctic expedition and those taken during the 1957 to 1958 campaign as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . The participants in the Soviet expedition gave it its name, which is probably based on its shape. The translation into English was done by the Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA), which was joined in 1974 by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names .
