The Lake Cowan is in its supervisory a seal reminiscent lake on the Ingrid Christensen Coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth country . It is located 800 m south of Lake Vereteno in the eastern part of the Vestfold Mountains .
The lake was explored from 1957 by teams of several campaigns as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) named him on May 18, 1971 after Dave Cowan, a weather observer at Davis Station in 1969, who was on one of these teams in March of that year.
