Nabin Dutta is 47 years old and a dentist. He has a son named Kushal who studies in Darjeeling . His wife is dissatisfied with the marriage and wants to separate from Nabin. Nabin feels uncomfortable and thinks he is sick, because dissatisfaction increases from time to time.

He compares his life with that of his driver Dinu. Dinu has two wives, Sukhi and Maloti, who get along quite well with the marriage. Nor can he complain about Dinu's daughter.

So Nabin starts pondering and looks for the cause in his childhood. He thinks about the past and comes across the red gate. His mother used to say that the gate symbolizes tolerance, so Nabin compares himself to the red gate. Finally, Nabin separates from his family and now begins a life full of tolerance.
