Elophila bourgognei is a butterfly from the family of Crambiden (Crambidae).

features

The moths have a wingspan of 19 to 20 millimeters (according to Leraut 2001 it is 16 to 19 millimeters). The body and wings are white and have a pattern similar to that of Elophila rivulalis , the proximal and distal lines on the forewings are only clearly visible in the vicinity of the Costa veins and are otherwise reduced. In the males, traces of a gray submargin line can be seen, in the females the forewings are almost completely white. The hind wings show very weak ante and postmarginal lines in the males, but they are clearly developed in the females. In both sexes there is a brownish-gray discocellular spot on the hind wings, which is filled with white.

The genital fittings of the males are very similar to that of Elophila rivulalis . The phallus has only one long cornutus and a terminal sclerotized plate with three teeth.

The female genital fittings are very similar to that of Elophila rivulalis . The bursal duct is very short, heavily sclerotized, and has a narrow ostium .

distribution

The species has so far only been found at the type locality in France ( Usson-du-Poitou , Département Vienne ), where all specimens were caught in 1911. The species is believed to have become extinct as there are no recent records.

biology

The biology of the species is unknown.

Systematics

The differences between the two similar species E. rivulalis and E. bourgognei, which Leraut worked out in 2001, are also accepted as species differences by Goater et al. Since the populations are presumably extinct, it can no longer be clarified whether it is a subspecies or a biological species.
